How the calculation works
Each challenge maps to one of 5 waste factors (Alignment, Empowerment, Flow, Knowledge, and Duplication) derived
from published research.
Because waste categories overlap in practice, the calculator uses the Root Mean Square (RMS) method to combine them without
double-counting. This ensures the total opportunity is always realistic — even at worst-case inputs, the model
caps at ~85% of capacity.
Hourly rates are fully loaded (salary + employer NI, pension & overheads) sourced from ONS ASHE 2025 and
sector salary guides.
